SF漫画「銀河鉄道999」などの作品で知られる著名な漫画家、松本零士氏が13日、急性心不全のため東京都内の病院で死去しました。福岡県久留米市出身の85歳でした。
訃報は漫画界に衝撃を与えました。代表作『銀河鉄道999』を連載していた小学館「ビッグコミック」編集部は、ホームページで公式声明を発表し、哀悼の意を表すとともに、日本のみならず世界から愛され、尊敬を集めた松本さんの漫画・アニメ界での長い功績に敬意と感謝の意を表しました。
「はじめの一歩」の作者である人気漫画家の森川ジョージ氏は、故人との思い出を振り返り、「残念です。漫画家協会に入ったものの、お会いする機会がなかった。ご冥福をお祈りします。」と語りました。
また、2004年に放送されたアニメ『宇宙交響楽メーテル銀河鉄道999サイドストーリー』でナスカ役を演じた声優の斎賀みつきさんも同日、自身のTwitterで「『宇宙交響楽メーテル銀河鉄道999サイドストーリー』にはナスカの声で参加させていただきました。ご冥福をお祈りします。」
同作品で鉄郎を演じた山口勝平は、「松本零士さん。宇宙の海への旅に出たのですね…。子供の頃から先生の漫画で恋愛や男らしさを学んだような気がします。あなたの登場人物に関われたことを本当に光栄に思っています。どうかマイペースで銀河の旅を楽しんでください。心からご冥福をお祈りします。」
「銀河鉄道999」星野美役の桃井はるこさん。また、『宇宙戦艦ヤマト』森雪役や『銀河鉄道999』クレア役の春水春華さんも、自身のTwitterで「どうしたらいいのかわからない…」と投稿し、悲しみを表しています。

松本は1938年(昭和13年)生まれ。高校時代、雑誌に作品を発表し、卒業後、少女漫画家としてデビューしました。1971年に「週刊少年マガジン」に連載された貧乏青年の日常を描いた人気漫画「男おいどん」で一躍脚光を浴びることになります。74年のアニメ「宇宙戦艦ヤマト」のメカニックデザイナーを経て、テレビアニメやアニメ映画に深く関わるようになり、77年の「ヤマト」劇場公開を機に、アニメ界のヒットメーカーとして知られるようになりました。「ヤマト」やその後の「銀河鉄道999」シリーズなど、彼の作品は長期にわたって連載され、継続されています。宇宙を舞台に、「愛と平和」をテーマにした「松本アニメ」は、老若男女問わず、国内外にファンを獲得しました。
Renowned manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, known for works such as the sci-fi manga “Galaxy Express 999”, passed away from acute heart failure on the 13th at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 85 years old and originally from Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
The news of his passing sent shockwaves throughout the manga industry. Shogakukan’s “Big Comic” editorial department, which serialized his representative work “Galaxy Express 999,” released an official statement on their website, offering their condolences and expressing their admiration and gratitude for Matsumoto’s achievements during his long career in the world of manga and animation, which earned him love and respect not only in Japan but also worldwide. Haruko Momoi, who played the role of Mi Hoshino in “Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy,” said, “I’m lost for words…,” and Haruwa Shunsui, who played the roles of Snow Mori in “Space Battleship Yamato” and Claire in “Galaxy Express 999,” also expressed his sorrow, posting, “I don’t know what to do…,” on his Twitter account. Matsumoto was born in 1938 (Showa 18). During his high school years, his work was published in a magazine, and after graduation, he made his debut as a shojo manga artist. “Otoko Oidon,” a popular manga about the daily life of a poverty-stricken youth serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 1971, brought him to the forefront. After working as a mechanical designer on the 1974 anime “Space Battleship Yamato,” he became deeply involved in TV anime and anime movies, and with the release of the “Yamato” film in 1977, he became known as a hitmaker in the anime world. His works, including “Yamato” and the subsequent “Galaxy Express 999” series, have been serialized and continued for a long time. The “Matsumoto anime,” which revolved around space and was centered on “love and peace,” gained fans of all ages and genders both in Japan and abroad.
