A game pack released in 1988 has been sold for over 10 million yen. Its protagonist is the Nintendo game “Super Mario Bros. 2”. Used game packs of this game are traded at around 1,000 to 2,000 yen.
On the 30th (local time), CNN and other U.S. media reported that an unopened “Super Mario Bros. 2” game pack found in the house of a deceased person in Indiana was sold at auction for $88,550 (about 10.1 million yen).
The “Super Mario” game series, which was released in 1985, has attracted the interest of collectors for several years with high transaction prices.
There is no word on the price of the game pack when it was first released, but if you estimate that the game pack cost around $20 at the time, its value has increased by more than 4,000 times.
