Yusaku Mastuda 33rd

On the 6th, the 33rd anniversary of the death of Yusaku Matsuda, who died in 1989 at the age of 40, a memorial service was held at Tsukiji Honganji Temple in Tokyo. This is the first time that I’ve been able to do this.

Also in attendance were Mieko Harada, Susumu Terashima, Yutaka Mizutani, Lily Franky, Toru Murakawa, director of the Nippon Television drama “Detective Story” starring Yusaku, Kaizo Hayashi, illustrator Seitaro Kuroda, bassist Toshihiro Nara of Sheena & Rockets, musician Seifuku Lee, screenwriter and novelist Tomomi Tsutsui, photographer Toshio Watanabe, who is known for his work photographing Yusaku as a musician, and stage mates.

As a thank-you gift, the attendees were offered coffee blends, as Shunsaku Kudo, the character played by Yusaku in “Detective Story”, used to drink coffee. The Blue Mountain, Kilimanjaro and Mocha coffees have Yusaku’s sticker on them.

He passed away at the age of 40, didn’t he? If he had lived, he would have been 73. It is still a young age. For me he is an eternal hero.
