In Japan, 100-yen stores are very popular. I sometimes use them myself because of their high quality. I sometimes use these stores because of their high quality and the large number of items available.
Daiso Company Profile – Daiso ダイソー (daiso-sangyo.co.jp)
Of course, Daiso is the No. 1 company in the industry. According to Daiso’s website, the company was established in December 1977, and as of the end of March 2020, its sales totaled 5,015 million yen.
The company has 3,493 stores in Japan. This number includes directly managed stores, distributors, and 300 yen stores, but it is safe to say that there is a store in every town. (As of the end of February 2020)
Incidentally, as of January 3, 2019, there were 3,200 stores, and as of January 31, 2020, there were 3,367 stores, and the number continues to increase every year.
The number of stores overseas is 2,248 (in 26 countries and regions), and the company is becoming famous overseas as well. (As of the end of February 2020)
Daiso is also attracting attention for the fact that it is not listed on a stock exchange. The company was founded in 1985 and has about 1,600 stores nationwide as of the end of March 2019. Celia’s stock price is 4110 yen per share. (As of April 25, 2021) There are no special benefits for shareholders.
The third largest in the industry is Cando. Unfortunately, there are none in the city where I live. The company has stores all over Japan, and is also expanding overseas. The number of stores is 1,050. (As of the end of February 2020)
Cando’s stock price is 2162 yen per share. The stock price of Cando is 2162 yen per share. 100 shares of stock entitles the holder to a gift certificate worth 2000 yen.
There are two Daiso stores near my house, so I tend to go to Daiso. There is also a Celia, although it is a little further away. Comparing Daiso and Celia, Daiso has a larger selection, but Celia has some items that are only available at Daiso, so I think they each have their own unique characteristics.
I was surprised by the Moroccan oil sardines. It was delicious. Daiso also sell such things.
